We just paid below the 100K mark on our house! We now owe 99,987!
But wait! That’s not the big news!
After seeing the new balance on the computer of our house payment I wanted to be excited but I just wasn’t. I wanted to be excited that we are finally below 100K on our house and it would never be more than that again.
My fellow friend and FPU’er sent me this text: “When people get discouraged about how far they have to go, they should remember how far they’ve come!” Yes! So true. We are in our 4th year of FPU and in this time we have paid off 30K+ in student loans, completely changed our ways of dealing with our money, have 2 paid for vehicles, supplied a 20K emergency fund, used said emergency fund over the course of a year and a half when Jareds job was slow, sold the camaro and are now in baby steps 4, 5 & 6. I’d say that is pretty good progress. I’d also say that we have worked too hard to keep doing what we are doing.
We have decided to sell our house and join the Small House Movement! Small house meaning converting a building into a house! We are (hoping) to go from 1800 sq ft to 832 sq ft! I’m so excited!
If we would have started FPU before we bought our house I want to say we wouldn’t have bought it. I actually still do really like our house, but it’s too much. Too much payment, too much to clean, too much space. The kids have too many toys, I have too much crap and I spend too much time organizing and re-organizing it. Having a house is a big responsibility and it’s an even bigger responsibility when you don’t have extra $ to put into it for stuff that needs to be fixed or just updated. I feel like we are overpaying on a big storage building for stuff that we don’t have time to use anyway. We have 2 small kids and all they want to do is jump around, climb and eat dirt. (Well not Jaidan, lol)
I’m looking forward to purging our stuff, simplifying our lives and living debt free! I don’t want money to be the main focus of things and I also don’t want it to hinder us. We have a unique schedule that we both really love and allows us both time to be home with the boys. No amount of stuff is worth us working so hard to barely fit it all in. We can’t keep up and we don’t want to. I just want my boys, fresh air and the memories we can make together!
