MY Top 10 Discovery Toys
April 28, 2010

Interested in buying a Discovery Toy, but not sure which one? Here are my top 10 favorites, in case you were wondering. 😉

1.) The first one has to be the SUPER YUMMY. Jaidan loves this little teether toy. It has 5 different textured ‘nubs’ that feels good on his gums/teeth. It also has a hint of vanilla scent to it. We hook this on to his car seat with the BOOMERINGS and every time we put him in the truck before we can even strap him in he is reaching for his super yummy. =) ((From birth-toddler, $10))

2.) BOOMERINGS would have to be next since I already talked about them. They are great to hook onto your toys and stroller, car seat, & high chair so you don’t have to keep getting up to get the toy. (This also helps teach cause and effect- throwing it off his table and retrieving it again) There are similar links around, but these are great because of the warranty. (Lifetime!- if any of your discovery toys ever break, we will replace them for free!) Once Jaidan is older we can use these links to strengthen his thinking skills by doing colors, counting, patterns, etc. ((From birth-preschool, $8.50))

3.) Measure up Cups is another favorite of mine. One of the many great things about Discovery toys is the many layers of learning. These have 12 layers! Right now me and Jaidan are nesting the cups into each other and I stack them while he tumbles them. (They have grooves around the edges that make it easy to stack) When he gets older we will be able to scoop and dump with them, we can use them in the sand box or bathtub. We can sort them by colors. They are sequentially numbered and written in french english and spanish. One of my most favorite things about them is that they are volumetrically correct!! This will help us with early math skills. We can fill cup 1 and 2 with beans and it will fill cup 3. (1 +2=3) yay! ((From 12months- primary school, $12.50))

4.) Castle Marbleworks is a fun one that we actually don’t have yet. You put it together and drop a weighted chime ball down the tracks. It’s fun to predict which course the balls are going to go. I need this one for my parties because little kids love playing with this one! (I love that Discovery toys are all hands-on. You don’t need batteries and babies/kids actually get a chance to use their imaginations!) ((From 2 years old- kindergarten, $38.50))

5.) HAMMER AWAY! I’m getting this toy next too! Jaidan played with it the other day and he loved using that hammer! (Of course) When he gets a better aim it will be fun with the ‘now you see it, now you don’t’! This toy helps build hand eye coordination, experience object permanence, color matching, and cause-and-effect concepts. Plus what a nice and safe release for all that boundless toddler energy!! ((From 19months- preschool, $28))

6.) IT’S A MATCH! This is a fun game to play with your 3,4, 5 year old. (I like to play it with the neighbor kids) I don’t really know how to explain it, but its a fun thinking/ matching game. It has different level books that slide in there. You can check your answer by pulling down the tray to see if the colors match! So fun! ((From 3 years- kindergarten- sold separately is a 4 year and up book, $25))

7.) A B Seas This is another one I played with when I was little, which I guess is why I like it so much- because I remember liking it when I was little. It’s a 2-4 player game. Each person gets a card with different letters on it. You go ‘fish’ for the different letters on your board. What a fun way to play with the alphabet! ((From 4 years- kindergarten, $20))

8.) Flip Flop Faces- Okay, say that 3 times fast. Or even once slowly. hehe. Kids love this game! (Me too!) There are so many different ways to play this game depending on the child. We played this in the cul-de-sac with the neighborhood kids and everyone wanted a turn. We played it by flipping the faces over with the bean bag and whatever expression displayed they had to tell about a time they felt that way. My 19 year old neighbor even had fun telling me when she felt happy, sad, silly, etc. ((From 4 years and up, $22.50))

9.) Marbleworks- Jaidan is definitely too young for this one as it has marbles with it, but I played with this toy when I was younger and we all loved it. It’s a bigger version of the castle marbleworks. This one is for 5 years old and up. You can also order accessory attachments for it. (($55 for all or $30 for the starter set))

10.) Last but not least, Tricky Fingers. My 8 year old brother has this one. I also had some 6-8 year old boys playing this at my last party. Seems to be a hit. You can play by yourself or race your friend to try to match the pattern with the balls. ((From 7 years and up, $13.50))

These are just 10 out of the bunch! Let me know if you have any questions or would like to order any toys! They make great gifts too! I’m putting my next order in on Friday April 30th.
